Claire Lyons
Claire Lyons is a fictional character in the The Clique series by Lisi Harrison.
About the story
Claire Lyons is not a member (until the 3rd book) of the The Pretty Committee (a.k.a. 'The Clique'), a group of the most popular, rich and spoiled girls at Octavian Country Day [or as Massie refers to it:: OCD], a private school in Westchester, NY. The other members of the Pretty Committee, and her closest friends in Westchester, are Massie Block, Alicia Rivera, Dylan Marvil, and Kristen Gregory.
Claire is from a middle class family from Orlando, Florida. When she first moved to Westchester in the first book, The Clique, no one liked her. Her father is an old college friend of Mr. Block, who is Massie's father. The Lyons' family moves into the guest house onto the Block Estate, much to the disdain of Massie. The only one who likes Claire, is Layne Abeley who she meets on her first day at OCD. Claire has a younger brother, Todd Lyons. She is the main protagonist of the series along with Massie and sometimes Alicia Rivera.
At the start of the series, Claire was obviously desperate to get approval from the Pretty Committee, specifically Massie. Ever since she moved from Florida, it has been emphasized that she feels as if she isn't allowed to be herself. Throughout the series, she's always felt the need to impress the girls, and feels as if she always has something to prove. Claire is the same grade as Massie and the others.
Physical Appearance
Claire is described as having light blonde hair and bangs. She, like Kristen Gregory, is somewhat short, flat-chested, and has a small body built of all muscle. She has a simple, casual dress sense, and usually wears sneakers, mainly Keds and Converse. Due to this, she has to put up with constant teasing from the other girls in The Pretty Committee. Her bangs were long in the 1st book (The Clique), but then she began to grow them out, until the 5th book, when her friend Lanye, ruins them and then Massie's hairdresser fixes them, so they are now super short. "Like a stylish french school girl with a cool notebook" Massie said how Claire looked.
Love life
In the 2nd book, Best Friends for Never, Claire develops a crush on Cam Fisher (Massie's crush in the book, but no one knows) at her and Massie's "When Hell Freeze's Over" Halloween party. In the 3rd book, Revenge of the Wannabes, Cam tells Alicia that he likes Claire and tells her to talk to her for him while he talks to his older brother (Harris) to go out with Alicia. Alicia also finds out that Massie likes Cam and can't wait to spread the word (Massie likes Cam but he likes Claire). In the ending, Massie decides to let Claire have Cam and begins her crush on Derrick Harrington (Derrington) . At the end of the third book, Cam and Claire become a couple. In the 5th book, The Pretty Committee Strikes Back, Claire tries to get back with Cam after she shared a kiss with Josh Hotz after the finals against Grayson Academy. When all her tries come up short, she asks Massie for help. She dresses up as a boy and sneaks out in the middle of the night to apologize about Josh and Cam forgives her. When she finds him with Alicia kissing, though, she becomes mad at him. She eventually forgives him when he dresses like a girl, proving that he'll do anything to get her back. In the 6th book, Dial L for Loser, Claire goes to Hollywood to become the star of a new movie. When Massie sends Cam a picture message of Claire kissing her co-star for the last scene, he finds out that she had to kiss a teen star for her role, and he becomes jealous and breaks up with her again. But at the end, he forgives her and they don't just lip-kiss, but French-kiss. In the seventh book It's Not Easy Being Mean, Claire doesn't spend a lot of time with Cam. She is so busy with her career, she hardly has any time. But they do not encounter any problems in this book.
